Had a birthday this week, I'm 29 now. Where did the time go.

Going to the Detroit Science Center today with friends.

My Quail Eggs came in. They are in my homemade incubator. They should hatch in a couple weeks.

I'm read for the snow to be over already.

It's my fault...
I took a shower Monday morning and forgot to drip the bathtub faucet.

D was under the house with the heat gun and the hot water line busted on him; right before I got home from work.

Water is shutoff to the house until tomorrow.

WTF

Going to the gym to use the showers.
Afterward, going to Skips in Ham-town to drink with some friends.
Ugh, sometimes I'm glad I pay Planet Fitness money.

Above is my new winter scarf.

In action photo coming this weekend!

I spun two different 4oz merino colorways and plied together. I love a barber pole effect! The scarf is 5ft long and 8" wide. I still need to block it, but I was way to excited to start wearing it.

I woke up to snow this morning. Holy Jebus!!!! I am not ready for this.

We put plastic on our bedroom windows last night & vacuumed everything in that room. I cannot believe how much hair gets between the bed and the wall. Gross! I guess it comes with living with two dogs and a kitty!

I gotta get my butt moving on holiday gifts. I'm half way with my sister gift. I really want to finish those this week.

When we moved in to our new house, there was a heater in the living room. The only remnants of heater has been this ugly pipe sticking out of the wall. We could had had it plastered over, but we didn't. A couple weeks ago I found the solution to our problem!

I called in sick yesterday to work. I needed a break. I was starting to hate everything around me. I used yesterday to try and get my anger under control. I keep taking it out on D. I don't mean to do it. Half the time, I am not aware I am doing it.

I bought a ship porthole mirror at the thrift store. Ill get a picture later! It opens!!!!

I watched "Secret of the Kells" last night. What a cute movie! I really enjoyed it.

I worked on my sister x-mas present. She suggested convertible mittens in black and purple. i am to the finger section now. I really like how they are coming together!!!!

It's finished! Wait, it's been done for a while. I took a picture of it with my phone while it was blocking. I really love this blanket.

It took 2 full skeins of blue Eco wool. I ran out on the edge, so I sub'd some older gray Eco wool.

After this, I'd like to try the hemlock blanket next.

Mom leaves to go back to Texas tomorrow morning. I will miss her, but not like it was back in December. We had a great time this summer.

Sandy is staying with us, up here in Michigan. I won't let her take her back to that hot state. She's a Michigan dog. She loves it here!

Tonight, we are all going downtown to eat tasty Mexican food.
It's going to be weird without another person around all the time. Who's going to wash my dishes after my kitchen experiments go horrible wrong.

Wow, It's really feels like fall now.

Last night was a soup and grilled cheese night. It was so nice to curl up on the couch. We watched "Evil Alien conquerors" I spent the night laughing and knitting. I am making progress on abalone sweater. I am to the split on the arm pits.

I put all my pictures from my trip in a album, yet I still haven't posted anything on Flickr.
Maybe tonight.

My first garlic harvest!
I planted these last fall right before the frost. I didn't get around to planting anything else this year. I am going to plant beans in the new vacant spot.
I would have to say, garlic is easy! It was really hot yesterday while I was digging them up. After everything was trimmed and cleaned, 1.16lbs before drying! This morning more of the Red stripes are coming out on the bulbs.

We went up to the property on the right weekend! Blueberries were everywhere!!! On the side of the road, on the trails, in the meadow, Iggy when foraging with me early Sunday morning. He is becoming such a good hiking dog.

Sunday, I was cleaning up the office. This is an area where the Beardies' cages, cat box, food & computers live. The fuse box is in that room too!

Sunday, Dicky put in a ceiling fan in all by himself. Since I wasn't feeling to productive. I made my kitty a nice little shelf. It is upholstered in blue corduroy & leftover cotton batting. She loves her little corner now!

When I get home I sorta have a routine. I get the mail, walk in, say hi to the dog, change my shoes and walk out into the back yard to check on the flock for eggs. Yesterday I found 3 eggs already laid. As I was reaching inside, One of my hens were inside the nest box/dust bath (Arizona Iced Tea Jug). She was all puffy and standing up. Oh my, she laid an egg! I've never seen a bird lay an egg. The Jumbo's I picked up on craigslist turned 6 weeks yesterday. Those 3 turned out to be 2 roo's & 1 hen. We named them Larry, Curly & Moe. I now have 4 laying hens.

I also found a recipe last night for a One-Egg Cake Recipe with 7 different variations. I am going to try and sub quail eggs for chicken eggs. I heard its 3-5 eggs to 1 large chicken egg.
Have I mentioned how tasty fried quail are?

We went "Up North" for the holiday weekend. I bought a new mini bike from Tractor Supply. I love this little guy. My husband put a new jack shaft on it this weekend. It has balls now!

Saturday morning I ran off to Eastern Market by myself. I power shopped, I only had 30mins to get everything and leave. I forgot I told my brother I wanted to borrow his truck. He leaves for work at Noon. I got downtown at 11am.

I knew what I needed:
Popcorn
Bacon
Fruit from Sara's stand.

I parked really far and speed walked to Gratiot Meat Market across the freeway. On the way back, I stopped to see Sara. She hook'd me up. I came home with a huge bag of peaches & pears. I was back in my car by 11:58am. I felt like I was on Farmers Market SuperMarket Sweeps.

I went straight to my brother apartment to get his truck.

We first filled the truck bed with donations from the garage. We had a pile of "shit" in our garage since we moved in. It needed to be donated. The weight has been lifted. 4 bags of clothes, 1 box of books, 1 box of kitchen stuff & a gamecube.

Next Stop, Home Depot
We picked up mulch, dirt, peat moss, manuer, light bulbs, 5 gallon bucket & a 42" ceiling fan.
I put 4 bags of mulch in my front flower beds. It looks so nice with a fresh layer of mulch.
Everything else is waiting in the garage for me. I might be able to tackle that project this week.

My pole beans are growing. my garlic looks great.

Sunday, I made peach & pear jam. I canned 4 8oz, 4 4oz, & 2 8oz for the freezer. I also froze the rest of the peaches for later use. I want upside down cake.

I actually finished this in time for my Grandma's Birthday. I've been working on this project almost every week since November. I am very happy with the way it turned out.The center is tied. The border is hand quilted.

Last Sunday, I washed the quilt and hung it out to dry on my clothesline. There is nothing better than line dried bedding.

The border was added from fabric I bought at joanns.

The backing is pieced from leftover's and some nice Kona Muslin. The binding is also leftover fabric.

Da' coop is complete. AHAhAHAHAHAHA

We did such a good job putting this together. The TSC rabbit cage fits right inside on the hutch, held in place by 4 screws. Easy in, Easy out, for easy cleaning! I painted it white to match the garage. I also trimmed it in cedar, from leftover plank from the driveway cage.
The neighbor saw the coop already.
He said it looked really nice and professional!

Today is considered the beginning of week 6. Come on Eggs!!!!!
It was raining when I checked on them this morning. The cage area is dry.

This weekend was very productive.

We built the wood hutch to go around the pre-fab cage.
I just need to paint everything and attached the pvc roof!!!!

Tuesday will be the beginning of week 5 for my little dinner buddies. I keep hoping for the first egg. I am really enjoying having these little guys around.

I was at the fruit market on Saturday. How do they not have any lettuce? I am confused. Isn't it that time of year for fresh greens?

Guess I gotta get into gear with the salad garden.

I made my own binding tape for the quilt. This week I will have the quilt finished. Tomorrow night is my sewing time. Her birthday is in 3 weeks.

I used the recipe in "how to cook everything" Did I mention that book is my favorite. I always seem to fall back and use a Mark Bittman recipe.

I cut some pretty spring flowers and put them in a canning jar for a bouquet. So pretty.

I've been busting my ass all week, working on piecing the back to my quilt.
I went to joanns and didn't buy enough fabric the first time. I went back last night to see they had the same fabric in 118" bolt, less than a yard left. I grabbed it and ran to the cutting counter. Since it was a remnant, it was half off. I bought myself a nice new pair of left-handed scissors with a 40% off coupon. Wow, what a world of difference. I've finally escaped from the world of the Righty's .

I should have some good pictures this weekend of both top & backing!
I'm really happy how this whole project is turning out!

I bought the cereal thinking I would like to eat it dry, I didn't like how the bran flakes tasted. I tried to pawn it off on D, but he did not want anything to do with it. My cupboards were getting pretty bare. I didn't even have any regular sugar for my coffee. Just a dried out bag of brown sugar and a whole bottle of Corn Syrup left over from making marshmallows.

Cranberry Macadamia Nut Cereal Bar (cereal from costco)
7C cereal
1/4C butter
1C Brown Sugar
2Tbs A.P. Flour
1/2C Corn Syrup (Ahhhhhhhh Evil!!!!!! Yummy Evil)

In a medium sauce plan:
Melt butter on Med. Heat
Stir in everything but cereal
Cook, stir until it comes to a full boil
Boil 1 minute
Mix with cereal, press in 9x13, cool 30 minutes

Yesterday, we took a ride to the bulk food store. I didn't need anything from there, I just wanted to spend money.
Did you know they sell those tasty Whopper Robins eggs by the pound!

At least I spent it on food stuffs.

This week, I am trying my hand at growing sprouts. Dick loves sprouts, but I won't pay for them at the store. Seems silly since I don't really like them.
I will move out of my food safety zone.
I will try them this Alfalfa sprouts. I put one teaspoon into a wide mouth pint jar and soaked them over night. This morning I drained and rinsed twice. I guess by the end of the week, I should have something growing!

I actually finished my Olympic knitting on time. I bound off during the cross country skiing yesterday. This was my first time being in the knitting Olympics. I wish I would have taken for progress photos over the 16 days. The light has been terrible here in Michigan due to the weather being cold and dreary. The yarn was a dream to knit! Tonight, Citron will get a bath and a nice blocking.

They are hatching!!!!!!!!

The first one was out and running when I got home yesterday. I was in disbelief at what I was seeing. I really didn't think anything was going to hatch. Number 5 was only a pip before I went to bed last night.

We drove to TSC and picked up chick feed and bedding.
The wood chips was only 5.97 for a big bale of it. The feed was only 4.99 for the small bag. I figure I will have to go back anyways to pick up more feed later.

This morning I couldn't sleep, so I woke up around 3am and checked on them. No change. I woke up this morning and checked on them before I took my shower. I saw #4 pushing out of it's shell. #5 was just running a muck over everything. Before I left for work this morning, #1 was pipping like crazy. I really wanted to call in today. I was strong and left. There is nothing I can do until they are all fluffy and out of shells.

Tonight I need to setup the brooder and get it going.

Monday is chicky hatch day. I am getting excited.
I am having an issue during this whole eggs-periment. My hand are so chapped now from washing them so much,. My left hand had 3 spots that are very very raw.
Next step, add the sponge & tube to the cooler bator' before lockdown (friday).

I enlisted my darling husband in designing the coop. He came up with some great ideas. I don't want to count my eggs before they hatch. If I cannot hatch these little buggers, I have to wait til next year. That is my stipulation for myself. It kinda keeps me in check, I know I can go overboard. HAHAHA

I want to make a cold frame..Cold weather planter box??.. I think that is what it is called. The front of our house faces south. We get a lot of great sun in my front flower beds. Maybe I can get D to head over to Habitat for Humanity store this weekend and see if they have any older windows.

I want to make Beef & Barley Stew & homemade crackers this weekend.

The best doughnut holes ever!!!!

I had a great time Sunday morning making these not-so-perfect doughnut holes. I used the recipe from Cooks Illustrated Baking book. I only sub'd cinnamon for nutmeg in the batter.

Lora bought me the eggs from her neighbors. A couple weekends ago I made a incubator out of a cooler. I still need to take a picture of the setup. Now I have 11 eggs to go into my incubator. I'm so excited. I hope they hatch! I just hope to get a barred rock for dicky. He said that's the kind of chicken his great-grandma had on the farm.

Those seeds snapped my tooth. Ugh. I had to go to the dentist last Tuesday. I was so scared that I would have to get another crown. Nope, he fixed it with a filling! I owe them $100 more on my crown balance. I have another appointment in January.

Don't get me wrong, the seeds tasted awesome!
Next time, I need to dry them off longer before I bake them. I roasted that pumpkin and made puree. It made my kitchen smell gross. I don't like the smell of cooked squash. The muffins I made tasted good.

There has been some cooking in my kitchen lately. Last night, Momma made Homemade pot pie from our leftover Turduchen. I'm not much for "cat food in a crust", but man that was good!

Tonight Dick & I will be making cookies tonight. Saturday is Kimlin's Cookies exchange. I also received an invite to make some cookies for our neighborhood cookie exchange. I'm going to make the same cookies for both. Shhs. No one will know!!!!

Last night I made cookies. A gal at my work sold cookie dough for her kids fundraiser. I picked up a tub of Peanut Butter Cup Cookie Dough. Somehow, I am more excited to get the tub it came in than eating the cookies. Woo Hoo New popcorn dish!

I cut my next set of quilting squares last night and assembled them. Tomorrow, there will be pictures of my progress so far! I cannot believe these squares are turning out so nice!

So this weekend was a Hunter's Widow Weekend.

Mom and I went to Dylan's Raw Bar in Grosse Pointe Park. She had a gift certificate from Restaurants.com. We ate so much food.
We ordered the following:

Kate, Mom and I went to Eastern Market. We couldn't have asked for a better day! It was sunny, 60's and not windy!!!

We made a Pork Roast and Roasted Fingerlings & Carrots for dinner. While the Roast was in the Crock pot, we dug into my new cheese making kit! Oh man, making Mozzarella cheese is so much fun!

Dicky helped me pin out a wonky quilt top to a flannel backer. His OCD is so funny. I started pinning it out and I needed some help keeping it flat. He made me take all the pins out. The top is not square. After an hour and screwing with it, it is now flat and pretty square. I just have to cut the filling to fit when I get home, then sew the edges. I am going to do the "quick turn" method for this quilt.

Kimlin & I are working on a quilt together. We did a shop hop last month. We both purchased the fabric packs to make a really pretty sampler .
Last night at knitting, we cut 2 out of 3 fat 1/3's.
It worked out pretty well. Tonight, I am going to scan that first square and e-mail it to her. 1 more fat 1/3's to cut up tonight, if I can get motivation.

It's hunting season in Michigan. I guess I can officially saw I'm a hunters widow? Our new neighbor butchers deer. He said he would help us out if someone gets something this weekend. I kinda hope they do kill a deer. I love venison. My Venison meat stash; from Mike's kill last year, has been gone since early summer.

Mom and I have a date on Saturday at Dylan's Raw Bar. I could really go for some good seafood. Well..... as good as you can get in Michigan.

Carol from BoA called me yesterday. I googled my ass off looking for a direct line to her. I found it on Trulia.com message boards. 805-577-5213 for anyone having trouble getting a hold of anyone at the 203k department. She informed me that the person who was handling my account has been on a leave of absence. Nothing has been done with my account. She is "rushing" the request for my title. What a Crock. My account has been transferred to Kandie at extension x4316. It seems that nothing gets done til I call...... I'll call again Friday.

This weekend, We are sanding and painting the laundry closet.

I am so annoyed. I called BofA again to see the status of my 203k. Everytime I seem to call, I get a different answer. So this time I call and talk to Maribell. She tells me they didn't even receive my shit and it would be another 10 day. WTF! I blew up. I asked to talk to a manager. She took down my number.
I went to lunch..... chilled out for 30 mins. I called back.....
I just talked to Sharon yesterday and she said they are setting it up and will mail out a check next week
Now the story is:
They didn't send all the paperwork. Carrol (manager) is rushing everything through and I'm supposed to call/email on Monday.
Our contractor called Tuesday night. He will be out on vacation til Monday. He really wants to get this over and done with and so do i....
I need a heater. I'm upset.

Edit: While at knitting tonight; Carrol from Bank of America called. My check will arrive on tuesday. Damn skippy!!!!

I made my first pot roast in my new kitchen. The weather changed from muggy hot August weather to crisp fall weather. Did I mention Autumn is my favorite time of year?

Thursday, Miranda gave me a great little book to read. It was called "Made from Scratch: Discovering the Pleasures of a Handmade Life" by Jenna Woginrich. I was already on this whole homestead kick, but this book put me over the edge. It is all I'm thinking about now. I absolutely loved reading this book. Thursday, I got home from knitting and read 3 chapters before I went to sleep. Any free chance I read this book. Saturday, I found a spot in my new back yard. Set up my camping chair, foot rest and some ice water. I spent all afternoon drying my laundry on the line and reading with Iggy.

Meijer's has flour on sale for 1.99 for 5lbs. I bought 2 bags of bread flour and a new jar of yeast. I made a basic loaf in my bread maker on Saturday.My kitchen smelled awesome. I also made a double batch of pizza dough for the freezer. I have been craving homemade pizza since we ate that terrible frozen thin crust pizza on Friday. BLARGGG

House update.

My mortgage was sold on 8-5 to BoA. It was just funded today. WTF!!!!
What a pain. I called the BoA 203k specialist right after I got off the phone with Chris from Towne Mtg. He was really helpful and gave me my new loan number.The lady I was supposed to talk to has been out of the office this entire time.
BoA says I am not in the system. I am supposed to call tomorrow.

In the meantime, our contractors called. They want to start soon. Dick gave them the lowdown on the money. They were fine with it. Which is good, we have keep them in the loop about everything.

The first weekend at the new house was very busy. Along with moving all our belongings, we somehow had time to secure the backyard for my dog. This was top priority! We lived on a second floor flat without a fenced in yard. The new yard has a cyclone fence on one side and a privacy on the other. The back fence had a section that fell down and the rest was rotting.

Friday, we tore down the old back privacy fence. Dick, John and I attacked the rotting fence with full force. We also thought we were supposed to pull out the old supports that were cemented in the ground. HA.... that was fun.... They sunk those in 3 feet deep. After all that we had to dig new holes for the new fence.

Saturday:

Dick and my dad dug the holes and attached the fence to the supports. It was up to Dick and I to make sure it was level before we mixed the concert. We checked and recheck. Poured the concrete in each hole, then checked it with a level again. This was way easier than I expected!

Meanwhile, my dad started putting together my driveway gate. I bought the gate kit and cedar planks from Home Depot. Sunk another post and attached the other post to the house.
We still have to clear coat the gateway and stain the back fence. It rained on and off over the past week, so we had to postpone staining.

Iggy is so content with his new enclosed backyard. He sleeps on the driveway and plays in the lilies next to the garage.

Friday was date night this week. I had mad cravings for tacos.
We drove to Mexican town by the bridge. I-75 was just reopened recently. Unfortunately, the exit we needed was still closed off. The next exit was Clark St. I did not know there was a huge park there! I saw a cool Taco cart in a parking lot.
Dick dropped me off at the bakery and parked the car. My sister took me there last time. She loves churro's. I bought 3 churro, lemon & apple turnovers, 1 football sized Bouls, & fresh tortillas for $6. The turnovers were very tasty. We made sandwiches with the bread. Soooo good. Flakey Crusty outside with that light airy bread center.

Anyways, after dinner we went the wrong way on the service drive and ended in the line to the Ambassador bridge to Canada. There was no way out. We were like rats in a maze. The only way out was to pay $4 and go to canada. Go through customs. Our car was searched and we had to get background checks. The Canadian customs agent said this happenes all the time,at least 15 on his shift alone. They are such nice people, they laughed at us mostly.Then we get back into the car over an hour later and make our way backover the bridge. The U.S Customs guy didn't give us any hassle. We had a paper that says we never went to canada and made a wrong turn. Then we have to pay another $4 for crossing over again.
Weird....

We didn't let us hider our plans. We were now out $8 and 2 hrs later.We made it to Motor City Cansino,since I have never been. Eariler, I cashed in all my loose change around the house. I made $29.

What an Adventure. I wanted Tacos and we end up in another country.

My pup will be 2 years old this weekend. I feel guilty, I'm dumping him off at my mom's house. We are going to the property for the extended weekend. My mom and her dogs are staying home too. She said she is going to have a doggy birthday for him. She is so cute sometimes.

Yesterday Dick and I drove all the way to Cabales. It took us 2hrs to get down there. He bought his new reel. I got a great deal on some long johns 80% silk/20%wool. Originally $50, on sale $7.50. Dick also bought me a crayfish trap. I kinda have been obsessing about catching crayfish for about a month. I guess I'll have a perfect opportunity to test it out while we are shore fishing.

I cannot wait to get out of the city.

I not a pink kinda girl, but I love this!
It's measurements are 60" wide x 25" long. It is way farther than my wingspan when I hold it around me. I really like the way lace looks on chunky yarns. My Kiri is lace weight and I ended up wearing it as a scarf all winter. It looks pitiful, I really need to block her out this weekend. My kitchen table still has the towels there from earlier.

I am so glad this month is almost over.

I got back into town last Friday. My grandpa passed the on the 8th.
I feel really good about everything. I drove my mom down to Austin in time for her to see her father before he passed. I did get to see him when he still knew who I was.

The second day we were in Austin. My mom and I were in a car accident. We are all OK. My grandma's car is trashed. My mom has whiplash and I bumped my head.

A lot of knitting time in the waiting room. I started the Mystery Lace Sock Knit Along over on the Sock Knitters Anonymous group on Ravelry. I am to the 3rd clue on both socks already. I really enjoyed this pattern. It kept me from thinking about what was going on.

I made my way to the knitting nest. I love the street they are on, Slaughter Lane. I bought my first skein of Malibrigo lace, a cute sock project bag ( red bandanna w/skulls) and a skein of pretty hand dyed superwash merino from Spinning Colors. I bought the "gingerbread" colorway. I think their tree's outside that are wrapped in yarn is so cool!!!

I am working on those Gingerbread sock obsessively. I picked out the Oblique Openwork pattern. I guess I have never offered to knit my favorite aunt in the world a pair of hand knits. She didn't actually come out and told me. She however bounced her foot up and down repeatedly while we are at the hospital. I was completely oblivious to her action. I know I'm a little slow, hehe. It works out good, her birthday is next Friday. I left the foot of the sock plain. Dick made a valid point, non hand knit sock wearers are not used to stuff on the top of their feet. See, I am clueless!

Weird Weekend

OK, so February is over. YAY! Looks like March might be coming in like a lamb. I hope so, I am pretty sick of Michigan winters right now. One day its 50 degrees, that night it is back down to 32.
Last Monday was my birthday. Dick and I went down to Belle Isle Conservatory. We also went over to Greektown to the casino, then over to Pizza Populis for dinner. I am so glad I took that day off work. It was so nice and sunny. This past Friday, I got another tattoo. Miranda and I drove to Swartz Creek to see Chris Hornus. I got my squid, I'm still pretty red today. Once the swelling and redness goes away, I can get a better picture of it.

Also, my mom just got home from Texas. She has been gone for about a month, taking care my grandparents. We picked her up from the airport Saturday afternoon. She somehow came home with this cute little thing. Her name is Mackenzie. She is 3 months old. She is used to 88 degree weather. So I started knitting her a little sweater as soon as we got home. I'm using my Lame Duck Mallard handspun. What a lucky little girl!

I really have been working on some stuff lately. I am still working on my vineyard sweater. I'm so close to finishing my second sleeve. I started a Noro Sock Clapotis, but I am stuck.

OK, you don't believe me?

I took Dick out ice fishing. He is a Shanty Virgin!!!! My dad usually takes me at least once a year. This year he is driving a semi-truck. We went to Metro Beach on Sunday. It was 19 degrees, I think? I dunno. It was sunny and cold.

Dick was my mule. I got him to drag the shanty with all our stuff out on to the lake. I was looking out for random ice holes. I was getting a little discouraged. They were all frozen over. (my auger sucks)We stopped, I sat down on the ice. These guys 2oo yards away started packing up. Wooo hoo... After they left, we snagged the holes. We were there from Noon til 5pm. No Nothing! We got Skunked!

I reheated Buscemi's Pizza Slices in aluminum foil for lunch. Drank hot cocoa & Coffee out of our thermos. It was nice. I did not get cold. No one fell in the lake. A very good waste of a Sunday.

I really wanted to steal these mitts and keep them for myself. Ooo, they are so soft and warm. I knit the Intercoastal Mitts before Christmas for Dick. I love the way the wool bits became tweedy.
